Kansas University student-athletes were listed to the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams. Ten KU student-athletes secured a spot on the male first team. It was the third time Seniors Ben Brownlee and Evan Landes earned the first team Academic All-Big 12 spots. Joining them were junior Nick Maestretti. After earning a first-team nod for the first time, Jayhawks were joined by seniors Phil Stand and Matt Berkshire, juniors James Hampton, Nick Meyer and Kenny Boyer with sophomores Ezekiel Welch and Nick Giusti.

On the women's side, twelve Jayhawk ladies were placed on the first team which was led by sophomore Hannah Dimmick, one of 12 women to maintain spots on the league's academic roll with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Kansas featured five other women including seniors Dasha Tsema and Daina Levy with juniors Nashia Baker, Malika Baker and Grace Pickell. For the first time, seniors Rachael Schaffer and Julia Dury, junior Jennifer Angles and sophomores Courtney Coppinger, Laura Taylor and Dorie Dalzell were slatted on the first team, according to KU Athletics.

Completing KU's academic winners were eight second-team assortments, three Jayhawk women and five Kansas men. First-team members made up of those who sustained 3.20 or better GPA and the second team are those who secured 3.00 to 3.19 GPA were selected by student-athlete support services director, KU added.

For the qualification, KU noted that student-athletes should keep up a 3.00 GPA or higher in either collective or the last two semesters and ought to have participated in 60 percent of their team's listed matches. However, freshmen and transferees are not qualified in their first year. Eligibility for interested senior student-athletes requires participation for at least of two years and meet all the requirement in the criteria.
