Cristo Rey Jesuit High School appointed renowned educator Walter D. Reap Sr. as the new principal.

A Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory school that enable students in Baltimore City to get to the top not only in college, work but also life, Cristo Rey Jesuit named the award-winning leader in education, Walter D. Reap, Sr as its second principal.

The school made the announcement on its official website, noting that Reap is scheduled to take on his new position from July 1. The veteran leader in education will replace Tom Malone.

Malone will now serve as principal at Mother Seton Academy, also situated in Baltimore.

"Walter Reap is an outstanding educator and teacher and an award-winning and experienced principal," the school's president, William Heiser noted in a statement. Heiser also pointed out that Reap's student-centered guidance as well as his ingenious way of implanting technology along with cross-curricular connections will help the students at Cristo Rey a great deal.

"We are very fortunate to have him as our next principal," Heiser added.

Heiser echoed the same opinion about Reap in a follow-up interview with the Afro.

"He really does put his students first," Heiser said.

This is not the first time Reap will serve as principal. Before coming to Cristo Rey Jesuit, Reap served as principal at Edward M. Felegy Elementary School in Hyattsville. Reap also served as principal at Germantown Elementary School in Annapolis.

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School opened in August 2007.

In collaboration with the Maryland Province Jesuits, the Cristo Rey Network and the Baltimore business community focuses on lower income families irrespective of religious, racial, and ethnic background. Cristo Rey Jesuit serves 350 college-bound students in grade nine through 12.

Among numerous awards, Reap has been honored with Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award and the Nancy Grasmick Excellence for Minority Achievement Award.

Reap lives with his family in Southwest Baltimore.
