Following a 13-1 campaign that included the AAC Championship and a New Year's bowl game victory over a Power 5 foe, the Houston Cougars scored another win.

Citing unnamed sources, The Houston Chronicle learned Kyle Allen plans to transfer from Texas A&M University to the University of Houston. ESPN later backed up the newspaper's report, citing its own sources.

The former five-star quarterback recruit will have to sit out next season, but will have two remaining years of eligibility afterward.

Allen played in the second half of his freshman season at Texas A&M in 2014 when Kenny Hill was benched. Hill then transferred to TCU following that season. This season, Allen was benched in favor of Kyler Murray, and both QBs left College Station, with the latter winding up at Oklahoma.

As CBS Sports pointed out, Allen is a natural fit at Houston because of his perceived potential as a former five-star high school prospect and his new head coach. Before leading Houston to a 13-1 season in his first year, Tom Herman helped develop Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett, and Cardale Jones at Ohio State. This season, he helped junior Greg Ward post career highs in completions, yards-per-attempt, and touchdowns.

Allen's sit year will also coincide with Ward's senior season, avoiding a potential QB competition next spring and summer.
