Update: TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin was charged with assaulting a public servant, a third-degree felony, and is out on $5,000 bond, ESPN reported. TCU suspended Boykin and junior wide receiver Preston Miller for the Alamo Bowl due to a violation of team rules.

"We are disappointed in their actions and apologize to the TCU Horned Frogs Nation, Valero Alamo Bowl and city of San Antonio," the school said in a statement.

Trevone Boykin's status for what may well be his final collegiate football game is now in doubt following an arrest for assault.

News 4 San Antonio learned Boykin was arrested for his involvement in a bar fight early Thursday morning that culminated in him striking a police officer. The report indicated the star TCU quarterback did not know he hit an officer when he threw the punch.

Boykin, 22, was reportedly at a bar called Pat O'Brien's in San Antonio just a few days before TCU is scheduled to play Oregon in the Valero Alamo Bowl. Other people at the bar began heckling Boykin when they realized who he was.

The report stated Boykin tried to hit one of the patrons instigating him, but missed and hit a bar employee. Police officers on bikes arrived on the scene after bar security moved the fight outside, which is when Boykin hit he officer. The officers were able to calm the situation when they told Boykin they would tase him if necessary.

Citing unspecified reports, ESPN reported Boykin would be charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and public intoxication.

"We are aware of a situation last night and are gathering information," Mark Cohen, TCU assistant athletics director/media relations, said in a statement obtained by KSAT San Antonio. "We will continue to closely monitor this and evaluate additional details as they become available."

A San Antonio police spokesman told ESPN Boykin has yet to be charged with anything and is being held at San Antonio City Magistrate. Even if Boykin is cleared legally, TCU would likely suspend Boykin for the Alamo Bowl game for violating team conduct policies.

Boykin just finished his senior season and is likely to enter the NFL Draft following TCU's bowl game.
