A day after his citation for misdemeanor solicitation, Adolphus Washington will be suspended for Ohio State's Fiesta Bowl game against Notre Dame.

Ohio State head football coach announced his disciplinary decision Friday in a statement obtained by ABC 6 in Columbus.

"Senior Adolphus Washington will be suspended from playing in Ohio State's upcoming bowl game for violating team policy," Meyer said in the statement.

ABC 6's Lisa Rantala learned the Ohio State defensive lineman answered a "backpage ad for sex" and wound up offering an undercover police officer $100, according to a document from Franklin County Municipal Court.

"The male stated on a previous phone call that he wanted to come for a visit and asked for the address," read the document. "The officer texted back with the address and 25 minutes later the male texted he was here."

Washington is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 17, Sgt. Rich Weiner, a police spokesman confirmed to The Columbus Dispatch. Washington faces a maximum legal penalty of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

The one-game suspension effectively ends Washington's college football career. The defensive lineman weighed going pro last year, but returned for his senior season and successfully boosted his NFL Draft stock with a strong season. It is unclear how NFL evaluators will take the citation, but Washington was considered a possible first-round selection beforehand.

"I want to sincerely apologize to my family, to coach Meyer and the coaching staff, to my teammates and my friends for my lack of judgement last night and for my actions that I truly regret," Washington said in a statement released Thursday, according to ESPN. "I have wanted to be a high-character teammate, a contributor to the success of this program and, most importantly, someone my family can be proud of. I am extremely disappointed in myself, and I can honestly say I will learn from my mistake and I will accept the consequences that deservedly will come my way. And I hope that people will know that I am truly sorry and that I sincerely do apologize."
