When the Michigan Wolverines look to build on their success this season starting next summer, they will do so with a key part of their offense, tight end Jake Butt.

The Wolverines' second-leading scorer announced on his Twitter account Tuesday that he decided to return to Ann Arbor for his final season of eligibility.

According to The Detroit Free Press, on Monday Butt was "50/50" on whether he would declare for the NFL Draft or return to Michigan. He also said he planned to talk to head coach Jim Harbaugh, who coached in the NFL as recently as a year ago, before he made up his mind.

During a recent press conference, Butt told reporters he has personal and team goals he would like to accomplish at Michigan, such as setting tight end records, as well as beating Big Ten rivals like Ohio State and Michigan State, ESPN noted.

Butt caught 48 passes this season for 620 yards, which was second on the team only wide receiver Jehu Chesson. With quarterback Jake Ruddock departing after his fifth-year senior season, a steady pass-catching tight end will be vital for Michigan's offense next season.

Harbaugh is going to get a crack at his first full recruiting cycle after putting together a Top-10 class last winter after getting a late start. Among Harbaugh's incoming recruits is a four-star, pocket passing quarterback named Brandon Peters.

Michigan was not supposed to compete for the Big Ten so quickly, but now they will have to try and improve on what they accomplished this season while also transitioning under their new coach. The former should be easier with Butt coming back.
