South Carolina's head football coach search is taking an interesting turn, as the school is said to be interested in a number of candidates, one of whom is committed to coach elsewhere.

Here's a roundup of everything being said about the search for the Head Ball Coach's replacement.

1.     Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has already been in contact with South Carolina athletic officials and will formally interview for the vacant position this week. Florida was Muschamp's first and only head coaching job, but he is often praised for his success coaching defense. (Source: ESPN)

2.     Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley is also talking with South Carolina's athletic department about the Gamecocks head coaching job. Riley has no head coaching experience, but Oklahoma's offense thrived under his direction this season. (Sources: ESPN, The State)

3.     Shawn Elliott was named interim head football coach when Steve Spurrier abruptly resigned after a 2-4 start. In an open letter published in The State, the HBC praised Elliott despite the team's 1-5 finish. Elliott may not have the inside track for the South Carolina job, but he has been in regular contact with the school's athletic director, Ray Tanner. (Source: The Big Spur)

4.     As of Tuesday, South Carolina was still pursuing Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart after he was said to have accepted the head coaching job at Georgia. There is nothing that would suggest Smart is wavering from his decision, as a formal announcement is expected this weekend. (Source: USA Today)

5.     Adding to the intrigue is a report that suggests Smart wants Muschamp to be his defensive coordinator at Georgia. The report also noted that both Tanner and Spurrier liked Muschamp for the South Carolina job. (Source: FootballScoop.com)

6.     Joining Smart in the longshot class of candidates is Tom Herman, Houston's head football coach. Houston sought to give Herman a raise before the season was even over, so the school seems keen on keeping him around. Nonetheless, he was considered a target for Tanner, as he was for other vacancies. (Source: The State)
