The University of Miami (UM) is expected to hire Mark Richt as the school's next head football coach.

Citing unnamed sources, ESPN learned Richt and UM came to an agreement and will likely confirm the news by the end of the week. However, Richt may not take over the team until bowl season is over.

The University of Georgia formally announced Richt's firing on Monday. At the news conference, Richt indicated he would coach the Bulldogs for the team's yet-to-be-decided bowl game, saying he was "really looking forward to coaching these boys one more time."

Even if he does not coach Georgia for its bowl game, UM's interim head football coach, Larry Scott, is expected to coach the Hurricanes in theirs.

Previous reports indicated UM was looking to pay its next head football coach $4 million per year, which is on par with Richt's salary at Georgia. Richt reportedly interviewed for the UM job this week, as did Mississippi State head football coach Dan Mullen, Greg Schiano and Butch Davis.

Richt is a UM alum and he played quarterback for the Hurricanes from 1979 to 1982. The Bulldogs' season this year was indicative of Richt's career, as they went 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the SEC, finishing second in the Eastern division. Though they are bowl bound, the Bulldogs again missed out on the conference title game.

Richt won two SEC Championships in his first five years at Georgia and none in his last 10 years.
