His quarterback depth all of a sudden shallow, Florida head football coach Jim McElwain secured a key commitment from one of the top pocket passers in the class of 2016.

According to ESPN, Feleipe Franks committed to Florida about a week after de-committing from LSU. Franks reportedly left his commitment because of uncertainty surrounding Les Miles' job security.

Miles' loss is McElwain's gain, as Franks would certainly compete for the starting quarterback position if he plays next season as a true freshman. His appeal lost, Will Grier's calendar year suspension will keep him out for the first half of the Gators' season.

With the offense struggling under Treon Harris' command, and Grier eligible to return mid-season, Florida will have an interesting logjam at QB if Franks does not redshirt. Grier will also lose a year of eligibility, effectively making next season his senior season.

247 Sports rated Franks with a 0.9767 composite score, which ranks him as the fifth best pro-style QB in the nation and the 45th-best overall. He also ranks eighth overall on The Orlando Sentinel's Top 100 list for 2016 prospects coming out of Florida.

At six-foot-five and 220 pounds, Franks has excellent size for a pocket passer and his best skill is arm strength, but he also shows a good feel for the position as well.

His commitment to Florida boosted McElwain's 2016 recruiting class from 14th overall on ESPN's ranking to 12th overall. His loss from LSU's class did not affect Miles' clutch on the top spot of the ranking.
