Scheduled to be arraigned on a citation for operating a vehicle while impaired this Friday, J.T. Barrett will now appear in court on Tuesday.

The Ohio State redshirt sophomore quarterback had his arraignment delayed a few days for undisclosed reasons. The Franklin County Municipal Court clerk's office confirmed to The Associated Press Barrett's attorney, Phil Templeton, requested the continuance but did not say why.

The citation is a misdemeanor and is Barrett's first offense, meaning he would be eligible to not face any punishment under the Ohio State football program's policy. However, head coach Urban Meyer decided to suspend Barrett for the team's game Saturday against Minnesota.

Cardale Jones will start in his place after being moved down in the depth chart for Ohio State's game against Rutgers. Braxton Miller, who has been playing this season as a hybrid back and wide receiver, will be Jones' backup.

In a press conference earlier this week, Meyer referenced a previous instance for the basis of Barrett's punishment. Meyer also decided to revoke Barrett's financial aid for the next summer term.

"I tried to collect as many facts as I can about what actually happened. I meet with the player, I meet with Gene Smith, obviously a very serious one, and then come to the conclusion that we had a one game," Meyer told reporters. "So when a kid has an issue like that he's there's some type of punitive damage as far as missing a game or something and then they forfeit their scholarship at some point. They can earn it back."

Barrett reportedly tried to avoid a DUI checkpoint near campus early Saturday morning and was cited for OVI and backing without safety, ESPN learned. He then failed a breathalyzer test and needed to be picked up by Jones.
