D'haquille "Duke" Williams, a senior wide receiver on the Auburn University football team, was dismissed Monday following two disciplinary issues in the past few months.

Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn announced Williams' dismissal in a statement posted to the team's official website Monday.

"When individuals fail to meet the expectations of our program, there has to be consequences," he said. "I gave D'haquille the chance to prove himself. I am disappointed that it did not work out."

Auburn welcomed Williams to the team in Jan. 2014 when he was the top recruit coming out of junior college. He caught 45 passes for 730 yards and five touchdowns last season, but was off to a slower start this season.

In five games, Williams never managed more than four catches and none went for more than 19 yards. Last season, Williams averaged about that many yards per catch in four games.

According to ESPN, Williams did not play in the Outback Bowl for an unspecified violation of team rules. After weighing an early entry to the NFL Draft last summer, Williams was suspended during the Tigers' fall camp for a "discipline issue."

It is not clear if Williams' dismissal was triggered by another rules violation or an accumulation of previous ones.
