When selecting a school, it is important to consider the school's surrounding town - or city in some cases.

The Princeton Review ranked the nation's best schools in major cities with its "College Citiy Gets High Marks" list. Below is the top 10. You can see the rest of The Princeton Review's ranking suite here.

1.     Tulane University

Location: New Orleans, La.

Acceptance rate: 28 percent

What the school says: "Consistently ranked among the top 50 universities in the nation and is one of only four private research institutions in the South that is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities."

2.     George Washington University

Location: Washington, D.C.

Acceptance rate: 44 percent

What the school says: "Four blocks away from the White House, down the street from the State Department, and near nearly all world headquarters."

3.     Boston University

Location: Boston, Mass.

Acceptance rate: 35 percent

What the school says: "Thousands of extracurricular activities and social opportunities, and surrounded by the exciting city of Boston, you'll never experience a dull moment."

4.     Suffolk University

Location: Boston, Mass.

Acceptance rate: 75 percent

What the school says: "A comprehensive private university located on Boston's historic Beacon Hill."

5.     Columbia University

Location: New York, N.Y.

Acceptance rate: 7 percent

What the school says: "An elite institution in the greatest city in the world."

6.     New York University

Location: New York, N.Y.

Acceptance rate: 35 percent

What the school says: "A close-knit community that combines the intellectual atmosphere of a small- to medium-sized college with the myriad cultural offerings and research opportunities."

7.     University of Pittsburgh

Location: Pittsburgh, Penn.

Acceptance rate: 53 percent

What the school says: "A large, urban campus that is very involved in its city."

8.     DePaul University

Location: Chicago, Ill.

Acceptance rate: 70 percent

What the school says: "All about integrating the opportunities of the city into the classroom."

9.     University of Colorado - Boulder

Location: Boulder, Colo.

Acceptance rate: 84 percent

What the school says: "Strong school academically with all the perks of a big state university."

10.  Vanderbilt University

Location: Nashville, Tenn.

Acceptance rate: 13 percent

What the school says: "Consistently enrolled America's most talented students and challenged them daily to expand their intellectual horizons in an inclusive environment based on open inquiry and respect."
