The University of Utah suspended Dominique Hatfield from the football team indefinitely following his arrest last week for aggravated robbery and theft.

According to the Associated Press, Utah head football coach Kyle Whittingham suspended Hatfield indefinitely due to the nature of the alleged incident. In a statement, the coach also said he would be monitoring Hatfield's court case.

Police told the AP Hatfield was already suspected of going to parties in order to steal cellphones left behind by drunk attendees in order to sell them later. However, Hatfield was also accused of robbing someone while brandishing a knife during a transaction in which he was selling the alleged victim an Xbox console.

In court documents obtained by the AP, Hatfield denied the robbery by knifepoint, but admitted to collecting cellphones at parties. Greg Skordas, an attorney representing the Utah Utes cornerback, did not comment publicly.

The Salt Lake Tribune published the full text of the charging documents in Hatfield's case.

The document states Hatfield went by "David Wilkins" in an online listing advertising the Xbox. When Hatfield pulled the knife on the victim, he demanded $180, which he collected before fleeing on foot and leaving his backpack behind.

The alleged victim's wife then contacted "David Wilkins" to inquire about two iPhones he listed for sale as well. When she met him at an agreed upon location, police arrested Hatfield, the document shows.

Hatfield has since been released from Salt Lake County jail on $50,000 bail, the Tribune reported, which his family posted.

Hatfield switched from the wide receiver position to cornerback last season, a position where he played well enough to earn a starting role immediately. Heading into his junior season, he was expected to be a week one starter as well.
