Apparently secure in staying at Ohio State for his final year of NCAA eligibility, Braxton Miller made a surprise announcement Thursday promising another one next week to address his immediate future.

Miller has been in the midst of a three-man starting quarterback competition as he recovers from a shoulder injury that kept him out all of last season. In his stead, J.T. Barrett led the Buckeyes to a one-loss season before Cardale Jones delivered wins in the Big Ten Championship, Sugar Bowl and National Championship.

Then all three stated they would stay put.

News of Miller's upcoming announcement arose when he stated on Twitter he had an encouraging visit with Dr. James Andrews, a famed orthoscopic surgeon, and Kevin Wilk, a physical therapist in Birmingham, Ala.

The Columbus Dispatch reported asking the two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year what the good news meant for his future. Miller reportedly responded by promising an announcement next week.

Miller graduated in May, making him eligible to transfer anywhere without the penalty of sitting out a season. A transfer now would be unexpected, but not entirely unreasonable, especially for a QB of Miller's caliber.

Alabama was one of the school's most heavily rumored to be interested in adding Miller and, adding to those rumors was the fact that Miller's physical therapy was taking place in Nick Saban's back yard. It is possible that Miller wanted good news from his doctors before making anything official.

Another possibility is that Miller will publicly affirm his commitment to winning the starting QB position at Ohio State, a goal he has been rumored to have held all along.
