Two student-athletes at the University of Missouri (UM) were injured in a car crash in Columbia in which their vehicle flipped over.

Harold Brantley, a defensive lineman for the UM football team, was driving the car on the U.S. 63 highway when he overcorrected after sliding off the left of the road, the Associated Press reported. Madeline Stock, a women's basketball player at UM, sustained minor injuries and has since left the hospital.

Anne Kettenbrink, a spokesperson at the UM Hospital, told the AP the crash left Brantley in serious condition.

A report describing the crash from the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates Brantley hit the right guardrail and flipped the car after his overcorrection. The report also stated neither passenger was wearing his or her seatbelt.

"Harold was injured in a car accident this afternoon on Highway 63 south of town. He was taken from the scene to University Hospital and is being treated for injuries," Chad Moller, a UM football team spokesman, told the St. Louis Dispatch. "We are hopeful that he will be OK."

Stock is a senior guard from Town and Country, Mo. who averaged 7.2 points per game last season for the Tigers. Brantley is a redshirt junior from Hershey, Penn. who was to be one of the Tigers' top returning defensive linemen. He recorded 54 tackles and five sacks last season.
