Hayley King, a 22-year-old student at the University of South Carolina, will face felony poisoning charges for spitting in and pouring hazardous liquids in her roommates' food.

According to the State, the Columbia Police Department (CPD) said King and her roommates had been in conflict several months ago. Afraid of what she might do as a result of their fighting, the roommates setup hidden cameras in Feb. to monitor King.

The tapes reportedly showed King spitting in containers of food, as well as pouring Windex in them. She can also be seen shaking the containers to make her additions blend in with its contents.

Her charges include unlawful, malicious tampering with a human drug product/food, the conviction of which carries a sentence of up to 20 years.

WIS-TV reported King confessed to her crimes in a recorded interview after the CPD viewed the footage and asked her to come in and answer some questions. She was arrested Feb. 9 and was released the next day on a personal recognizance bond of $5,000. After appearing in court Monday, her next appearance is not scheduled until June.

The roommates, one of whom said she ate food from a contaminated container, wished to remain anonymous, but said they deeply troubled by the incident. King's attorney declined to comment on the student's behalf.

"The aftermath... caused me to fall behind in my classes," one of the roommates told WIS-TV. "I was forced to switch out of one of my courses because I was so distracted with everything going on. This not only affected me physically, having to deal with the repercussions of the incident, but also mentally from the anxiety that came along with it."
