Soso Jamabo, a key member of UCLA's impressive football recruiting class this year, was arrested over the weekend for speeding and trying to evade the police.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Kemp Police Department (KPD) said Jamabo was operating a truck that an officer noticed to be speeding and attempted to pull the vehicle over. Jamabo then drove through a stop sign, swerved to evade other cars while the passengers tossed things out of the window.

When police got the truck to pull over, Jamabo exited from the driver's seat. In the car with him was a 19-year-old male, an 18-year-old female and one juvenile, none of whom were identified and only cited with possession and consumption of alcohol.

Jamabo was charged with evading arrest and was still in jail Sunday for his arraignment hearing. KPD Chief Robert Walker told the News the officer did not test Jamabo's sobriety at the time of the arrest, noting drunk driving was only a "suspicion."

In high school, Jamabo played running back at Texas' Plano West, but UCLA recruited him as an athlete without a set position. ESPN ranked him 28th in their list of the 300 top high school recruits.

Jamabo was one of 10 four-star high school players to commit to UCLA, earning the school an impressive class. Josh Rupprecht, the school's associate athletic director, told the News in a statement UCLA caught wind of Jamabo's arrest.

"We are aware of the reports out of Dallas regarding Sotonye (Soso) Jamabo. We are obviously concerned about these reports and are currently gathering more information," he said. "As this is a continuing process, we will withhold further comment until the appropriate time."
