The Ohio State Buckeyes' spring football game could have easily been mistaken for a regular season contest on the fan atmosphere alone.

According to ESPN, 99,391 fans attended the spring scrimmage, breaking the school's previous record. With nearly 105,000 seats, Ohio Stadium was approximately 95 percent full Saturday.

Hanging over the Buckeyes as they go through spring practices and training camp is the starting quarterback competition. However, the spring game likely had a minimal effect on it, as Cardale Jones was the only potential candidate to play Saturday.

Playing for the Gray squad, Jones threw two touchdowns in a 17-14 win over Scarlet, though he did also get sacked three times and was picked off twice. QBs J.T. Barrett and Braxton Miller did not play due to their ongoing injury rehabilitation.

''It was pretty fun,'' Jones said in a postgame press conference, according to the Associated Press. ''I hope I can carry it over to the fall.''

The spring game being more of a fan event than a meaningful game, Barrett and Miller were not the only Buckeyes to sit out. Running back Ezekiel Elliot and wide receiver Michael Thomas also sat out with injuries. Jones also launched a football 74 yards, perhaps making people forget those three sacks.

"99,000 people? I think I heard that over the PA system. I'm not surprised but extremely grateful to have that many come watch a scrimmage. At times it wasn't a very pleasant scrimmage," coach Urban Meyer told reporters, according to ESPN. "We grab a hand after each time we come into the stadium, and we're very grateful for the blessings to be able to play this great game, first of all, and secondly where we play it. I imagine it has to be some kind of record."
