Morgan State University (MSU) has vowed to take swift action in a stabbing on campus that has injured three Bears football players.

Clint Coleman, a university spokesman, confirmed to ESPN one player was left in serious condition, though he is expected to recover. Police said the injuries are not life-threatening.

School officials said there were a series of fights at an organized social event over the weekend. The one in which the football players were injured took place Tuesday afternoon where another student struck aimlessly with a knife.

The three players sustained cuts to their chest, cheek and arm, respectively, Coleman said.

MSU President David Wilson addressed the study body Tuesday night, classifying the triple stabbing as a random attack that no longer poses a threat to those on campus. Police said they have a suspect in custody.

"The police are confident that there is no remaining threat to the University," Wilson said in a statement. "I want to assure the University community that we here at Morgan take the safety of the entire University quite seriously, and as such, the behaviors that we have seen from a few of our students over the past several days will simply not be tolerated... This is not Morgan!"

In an open letter released the next day, Wilson also vowed "swift action" to keep the MSU campus community safe. He iterated the school's zero tolerance for fighting and announced a mandatory conflict resolution class for incoming students, starting next fall.

"Based on what we have learned from recent incidents, it seems as if there are issues revolving around male/female relationships that need further attention.  We will be working with our Counseling Center to identify additional resources that will enable them to more effectively minister to the needs of our students in this area," he wrote. "Morgan State University is an institution known for excellence in everything that we do, and we will continue unabatedly down this path."
