The University of Central Florida (UCF) had a sandy surprise for its football fans when launching their ticket sales campaign for next season.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, UCF is outfitting its Bright House Networks Stadium with a beach club in the midst of the stands. Construction is scheduled to start in about three weeks and should be ready for the Knights' first game.

Zack Lassiter, UCF senior associate athletic director for external operations, said the beach section is a bit of personalization for the team.

"The whole idea was we're in Central Florida and we want everyone to know where we are," he told the Sentinel. "It's November and we're wearing shorts and flip flops and it'd be great to showcase our community, and so the idea came up to do some kind of premium experience on the east side."

The inspiration for the beach club reportedly came from the Jacksonville Jaguars, whose EverBank Field has swimming pools beyond the end zone. The East Side Club (ESC) will not have water though, just beach.

"We are continuing to elevate the UCF brand nationally through our partnership with ESPN and other television partners," UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury said in a statement. "The Florida-themed ESC gives us an opportunity to reinforce our location, which I believe is a major asset. The ESC will provide a window into the UCF and Central Florida culture and personality to potential students, recruits, fans, friends and supporters."

UCF plays in the American Athletic Conference, a Division I, non-Power-5 conference, so the ESC will be a way to stand out from the wealthier, more successful programs. Fans will get their first look at the ESC on Sept. 5 when UCF hosts FIU.

"The ESC gives us an opportunity to expand our premium experience offerings," Stansbury said. "We've been sold out of premium seating for the last few years, so the ability to provide more premium seating and amenities was a definite need for us."
