The 12th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish survived Georgia Tech without Zach Auguste and also against Miami with the promising power forward playing only a few minutes.

According to the Associated Press, Notre Dame coach Mike Brey did not address Auguste in his postgame news conference. With his academic issue apparently resolved, Auguste was eligible to play Saturday, but came off the bench to play just nine minutes, contributing four points to the team's win.

Since Brey did not talk about not starting Auguste, it seems that his limited participation in the game was due to Notre Dame fielding a small lineup in the game.

"Having five shooters out there, I knew we would get the looks we wanted," Notre Dame senior guard Jerian Grant said after the game, according to the AP. "I've felt like I've been in a bit of a slump, so to have a game like this is big for me going forward."

"It was as much a defensive move," Brey said of his personnel decisions. "You don't play post defense against Miami."

Brey later told ESPN via text message that Auguste was ruled ineligible against Georgia Tech because he had to make up some assignments. He also indicated that Auguste rejoined with little time to spare before the game Saturday.

Auguste is averaging 13.7 points per game, the third-highest total on the team, and his 6.2 rebounds per game are second for the Irish.

After an early loss to Providence, Notre Dame reeled off 11 wins a row before losing to Virginia. They are 17-2 overall and 5-1 in the ACC. The Irish have two games scheduled this week, both on the road, against Virginia Tech and N.C. State.
