The University of Georgia (UGA) has announced it will apply for Todd Gurley's reinstatement.

The school's athletic department released a statement Wednesday morning saying they will "file the necessary paperwork" later in the day. The NCAA ruled UGA's tailback ineligible on Oct. 9 for allegedly accepting cash payments in exchange for his autograph.

UGA placed Gurley on an indefinite suspension while they reviewed the matter, though it is not clear what the NCAA will do next, ESPN reported. Without explicitly admitting to the violation he is being punished for, Gurley and his attorney, William King, expressed remorse.

"I want to thank the University, coaches, teammates, and the Bulldog Nation for their patience and support," Gurley said. "I take full responsibility for the mistakes I made, and I can't thank the University, my coaches, and teammates enough for supporting me throughout this process. I'm looking forward to getting back on the field with my teammates."

If Gurley is reinstated, the NCAA's punishment will depend on the evidence they have and how much money they can prove Gurley received.

"Todd has taken responsibility for his actions and is ready to rejoin his teammates," King said. "The University has been great throughout the past two weeks and has done everything it can to support Todd. I would especially like to thank President Morehead, Greg McGarity, and Coach Richt for standing by Todd."

The Bulldogs are 2-0 without Gurley, who was a Heisman Trophy candidate at the time of his suspension. What is even more impressive is how freshman running back Nick Chubb has stepped up helping the team win two games on the road against SEC foes.

Georgia has this weekend off before playing Florida and Kentucky. They finish their schedule with three straight home games after that, the first of which coming against fifth-ranked Auburn. For Georgia to make the first inaugural College Football Playoff, the Auburn game may well be a must-win.
