The Michigan Wolverines will play another major nonconference college football program in the 2020s, announcing a home-and-home series with Texas for 2024 and 2027.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan will play the Texas Longhorns in Ann Arbor on Aug. 31, 2024 and then in Austin, Texas in 2027. Michigan is also slated to play Oklahoma in 2025 and 2026.

Michigan is the winningest NCAA Division I FBS program of all time with 911 and Texas is third with 876 wins. Michigan played Notre Dame, the second-winningest team, earlier this year.

"A match-up of this magnitude doesn't come along all that often, and when it does it's special for both programs and the great fans that support each institution," Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke said in a team news release. "This also is a special series for all fans of college football, and I anticipate great games just like the first contest played between the two programs."

In addition to Michigan's future matchups with Texas and Oklahoma, the Wolverines have nonconference home-and-home series with Arkansas (2018-19), Washington (2020-21), Virginia Tech (2020-21) and UCLA (2022-23). Next season, Michigan will play FBS independent teams BYU in 2015 and Navy in 2017.

The last time Michigan played Texas was the 2005 Rose Bowl, which ended with Texas winning 38-37 on a game-winning field goal as time expired.

Michigan is currently 2-1, trailing the 3-0 Penn State Nittany Lions for the lead in the Big Ten East. The Wolverines are also working to climb back onto the AP Top 25 poll with crucial matchups looming against the Lions, Michigan State and Ohio State.
