West Virginia University (WVU) Mountaineers have suspended starting cornerback Daryl Worley indefinitely, but did not specify the specific reason.

According to the Associated Press, WVU head football coach Dana Holgorsen said Worley's suspension was for a violation of team rules. It is also unclear how long the sophomore defensive back's suspension will last.

WVU is 2-1 on the season with their only loss coming in week one against Alabama, though they only fell 33-23. Worley will definitely sit out Saturday's home game, which is the team's Big 12 opener against the fourth-ranked, undefeated Oklahoma Sooners. WVU also has important matchups later this season against Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas and Kansas State.

WVU announced Worley's suspension in a short, vague email from Mike Montoro, the school's athletic director, the Beckley Register-Herald reported.

"West Virginia University football coach Dana Holgorsen announced tonight that sophomore cornerback Daryl Worley has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules," read the e-mail. "Hologorsen will have no further comment at this time."

According to the Register, Worley has been the Mountaineers top cornerback this season and would play defense opposite their opponent's best wide receiver. In three games this season, Worley has 17 tackles and two interceptions.

WVU will at least get Ishmael Banks back, the team's other starting cornerback, who was suspended for academic eligibility purposes for the first three games. Worley's absence will hurt the Mountaineers' defense, but Banks' return will cushion the blow.

Oklahoma boasts a strong offense overall led by quarterback Trevor Knight, a preseason Heisman Trophy watch list player.

Holgorsen is scheduled to address the media at noon Tuesday, but it is unclear if he will discuss Worley's suspension in more detail.
