The Ohio State Buckeyes look like they will be without their star quarterback Braxton Miller, who was also expected to compete for the Heisman Trophy.

Unnamed sources have told ESPN that the Buckeyes are prepared to shut Miller down for the entire season after her injured his right shoulder on a noncontact play in practice. Before practice Monday, Miller announced his surgically repaired shoulder had fully recovered.

Miller left the field after he sustained the injury, which has yet to be identified, accompanied by the team's medical personnel. While the team has not confirmed what his specific injury is, the sources only indicated Miller will not play football this season.

Miller first his shoulder during the Orange Bowl last season and he spent the entire offseason rehabbing it. He had to miss Ohio State's contact practices and could not participate fully in the team's preseason activities. Miller had the best season of his college career last year, throwing for 24 touchdowns and running for 12 more. In his three years as the team's starter, he was by far the Buckeyes' most seasoned quarterback, as Ohio State may now need to start J.T. Barrett, a redshirt freshman.

Ohio State came into the season ranked fifth overall in the Associated Press' preseason poll, with 12/1 odds to win the National Championship, according to the Las Vegas Hilton Sportsbook. Miller was also the third most likely player to win the Heisman Trophy with 15/2 odds. ESPN's Brett McMurphy reported Tuesday that Ohio State's odds of winning the title fell to 50/1 after news of Miller's injury broke. With Michigan State, Wisconsin and Nebraska looming, Ohio State's chances of winning the Big Ten also likely took a major hit.

The Ohio State passer had a Total QBR of 81.3 last season, which ranked seventh in college football, behind the likes of Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota and Brett Hundley.
