Sony has reached another plateau with its PlayStation 4, as they have confirmed the next-gen console has reached 10 million units sold.

According to USA Today, Sony made the announcement at Gamescom, a video games press conference in Germany. Thanks to the PS4, Sony has seen its video game and network division double in sales during the second quarter.

Sony released the PS4 on Nov. 15, 2013 in North America, Nov. 29 in Europe and Feb. 22, 2014 in Japan. Its main competitor in the next-gen console market, Microsoft released the Xbox One Nov. 22, 2013 and the PS4 has since dominated the head-to-head competition.

For six consecutive months, the PS4 has been the best-selling video game system on the market.

In April, Reuters reported, Sony had sold seven million PS4 units, whereas Microsoft had shipped five million Xbox One units to its retailers. Sony was reportedly worried at the time that they may not be able to keep up with the impending demand for the PS4.

At the same press event, TIME reported, Darrell Gallagher, Crystal Dynamics' head of product development, announced that the "Rise of the Tomb Raider" video game would be an Xbox-exclusive title. The announcement was a surprise as past versions of the "Tomb Raider" series have been multi-platform.

The new title is expected to be released late next year, meaning it will be in direct competition with "Uncharted 4: a Thief's End," the latest in the PlayStation-exclusive series. "Uncharted" has experienced great success with its past three titles and Naughty Dog, the game's develop, recently said "A Thief's End" will still feel like a "summer movie blockbuster" with a "more personal" experience.

The PS4 and Xbox One are also bracing for the release of "Assassin's Creed: Unity," a game that will be exclusive to the two next-gen consoles. Ubisoft is also releasing "Assassin's Creed: Rogue" for the previous generation consoles, the PS3 and Xbox 360.
