Situated nearly smack-dab in the middle of the state of New York, Colgate University is the Princeton Review's "Most Beautiful Campus."

The ranking is part of dozens of lists annually released by the publication, based on surveys of 130,000 students at 379 schools. The "Most Beautiful Campus" list did not favor either coast, but no schools in landlocked states made the ranking (unless you count Indiana, Ohio or Mississippi as being landlocked).

However you look at it, the Review's prettiest campuses all happened to be at least within driving distance of some body of water. The list did not favor the Midwest, save for the more-eastern states of Indiana and Ohio.
