Various crews are expected to work all through the day Wednesday on UCLA's campus to respond to a break in a water line that massive amounts of flooding.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the water main broke around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and officials estimated it discharged some 10 million gallons of water. The flooding has affected some parts of the campus and Sunset Boulevard, resulting in the city to ask drivers to avoid it Wednesday morning.

The morning commute is expected to be extra painful for commuters, but the city was left with no choice but to try and fix the high-pressure main immediately. The hole of the water main's break was about 15 feet wide and officials said the estimated its geyser of water stretched 30 feet into the air.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) told the Times they helped five people escape two quickly flooding parking garages, but did not find any other victims. The LAFD also said they had rescue rafts on patrol searching for anyone who might be stranded.

"(It's a) 30-inch main that connects into a 36-inch main and (the Department of Water and Transportation is) trying to remove that residual water that still had some pressure behind it," LAFD Capt. Jaime Moore told NBC L.A. "Once they get all that water out, it's a dewatering operation, they'll be able to start working on those repairs."

Neither UCLA nor city officials gave a timetable for their work Wednesday, but the school is expected to provide updates throughout the day.

The flooding also seeped into the Pauley Pavilion gym. According to ESPN, athletic department staff members saved whatever they could carry from the locker rooms and also tried to stop the flooding with sand bags. Unfortunately, water soaked the gym floor, which will likely need to be replaced.

UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero acknowledged the grisly damage done to the gym and said they would reassess it on Wednesday. He told ESPN he is "confident we will play at home this season."
