With the job market apparently getting tough on recent college graduates, it may be worthwhile to pursue a unique, if not specific, undergraduate major.

According to a list compiled by USA Today, there are at least five highly unique college majors and the schools that offer them with real world uses. Besides a rough job market for young people, past studies have also shown that a high amount of recent graduates are underemployed or not working in the field of their degree.

Per USA Today, here are 5 of the nation's most unique college majors:

1.     Puppet Arts, University of Connecticut

If you want an undergraduate degree in puppetry, UConn is your only option in the U.S. As a result, graduates get noticed and the Storrs, Conn. campus is only a few hours away from the city.

"Alumni of the UConn Puppet Arts Program form their own touring companies and perform before audiences around the world; they work on the Broadway and off-Broadway stages; they produce movies alongside the gurus of hi-tech, special effects cinema," Bartolo Roccoberton, director of the Puppets Arts program, told USA Today.

2.     Bakery Science and Management, Kansas State University

Though this is a specific major, and the only bakery science undergraduate program in the nation, grads can pursue several jobs within the business. The school's website says bakery students can prepare themselves for "administrative, research, production, and executive positions."

3.     Viticulture and Enology, Cornell University

Winemaking is an age-old career that will never go away and Cornell's program is perfect for East Coast students who do not want to travel to Calif. Graduating from a prestigious school such as Cornell, students in the school's viticulture program typically go on to work in wineries all over the nation.

4.     Secular Studies, Pritzer College

You can get a degree in religious studies, so why should there not be a non-religious studies program? Phil Zuckerman, the school's founder of the Secular Studies program, told USA Today one of the degree's main focuses, ironically enough, is about understanding secularity and secularism and secularization - and of course, how these relate to religion."

5.     Canadian Studies, Duke University

What's a better place to graduate with a degree in Canadian Studies than North Carolina? Duke is one of the few colleges in the nation to offer such a program and it operates like most history tracks. Canadian Studies could also look attractive paired with a related minor.
