Along with the existing International Development and Global Security concentrations, students will now have the opportunity to pursue a concentration in United States Foreign Policy and National Security or International Negotiation and Conflict Resolution.

"The School of International Service trains students on the fundamentals of international relations that enable them to succeed in today's dynamic global climate. Moreover, the specialized concentrations in the Master of Arts in International Relations enable students to become experts in their particular fields, equipping them with valuable skills and tools as they enter new careers or seek to advance within their fields," James Goldgeier, dean of the School of International Service, said in a statement.

The United States Foreign Policy and National Security concentration will focus on the economic, historical, political, social, and strategic underpinnings of foreign, defense, intelligence, and national security policy. The International Negotiation and Conflict Resolution concentration will train students to assess, negotiate, and resolve disputes involving transnational issues and differing cultures.

"We are continuously expanding our online learning opportunities for [international relation] students located around the globe by adding new concentrations so they can effect change anywhere in the world," Goldgeier said.

American University's School of International Service launched IR Online in 2012, making the institution's School of International Service the first top-ten ranked school of international relations to offer a graduate degree fully online.
