Christian Minard, a lesbian student at the Southwestern Christian University, has been expelled for marrying her partner earlier this year in Albuquerque, N.M.

An administrator at the University learnt about Minard's same-sex marriage with Kadyn Parks by seeing pictures of the couple on Facebook. The officials said that such a union is not welcomed and contradicts "lifestyle covenant" of the university.

The 22-year-old Oklahoma college student, who was just one semester away from graduation, received a letter informing her of her dismissal.

An excerpt of the letter:

"As an American and a Christian, I do respect your choice," wrote SCU vice president of student life Brad Davis. "[But] I have to uphold the Lifestyle Covenant at SCU and confront you with our position. Due to this recent event, you will not be able to attend SCU in the future," LGBTQnation reports.

Homosexual behaviour is one of the offenses listed in the school's code alongside harassment, sexual misconduct, alcohol use, tobacco and pornography among others.

Minard, in her senior year in college, said that several students violate the contract without being disciplined. The student believes that she was targeted because of her sexual orientation.

"I didn't even get a hearing, just a letter to my parents," Minard said.

Minard is now at crossroads due to the expulsion. She is currently looking at various colleges she can apply to, so to resume her studies. "It's going to be hard to get into classes that may be full, because they gave me very little notice before the fall semester starts," Fox 8 reports.
