Rice Student Goes Missing During Spring Break Trip in Florida

Reny Jose, an Indian-American student at the Rice University, has disappeared during his spring break trip with his friends at a two-story rented beachfront home in Panama City, Fla.

The 21-year-old mechanical engineering major was last seen 7:00 p.m. March 3. His friends reported him missing March 4 morning.

A 22-year-old Kingwood man living at a beach cabin told officers that Jose had consumed LSD and spoke about harming himself, the evening he went missing, Chron reports.

Police officials discovered Jose's clothes, wallet and cell phone in a garbage can near the rented home. His friends had last seen him wearing the same clothing.

A Facebook page, 'FIND RENY JOSE' has been created to assist the search.  "My family and I are so thankful for all your prayers and support," sister Reashma Jose said, NY Daily News reports.

Jose, originally from Latham, a suburb of Albany, N.Y., graduated from Shaker High School. He is a member of Martel College and the Sigma Pi fraternity, the American Bazaar reports. According to the Facebook page's flyer, Jose is 5'10" and about 185 pounds. The rented house is located on the 21000 block of Front Beach Road, which is a beachside street.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bay County Sheriff's Office at 850-747-4700 or Crime Stoppers at 785-TIPS.

This is the third Indian student that has gone missing in the last few weeks. Jasmine Joseph, a 22-year-old nursing student from New York has been missing for over a week. Pravin Varughese, a Southern Illinois University student was found dead in Carbondale after missing for six days.
