12 Princeton Students Chosen As International Streicker Fellows; Who Are They & Where Will They Go [VIDEO]

Established in 2015, the Streicker International Fellows Fund offers undergraduates the opportunity to participate in substantive research projects in the foreign culture. The Office of International Program at Princeton University selects the Streicker fellows.

During the summer, the students will deepen their knowledge about their chosen area of interests. Consequently, they will try to understand different perspectives based on cultural immersions. This year, 12 outstanding Princeton students, whose names are indicated below, were picked for the said program.

Mariachiara Ficarelli

A sophomore from Reggio Emilia, Italy, she is planning to major in anthropology. Currently, she is pursuing contemporary European politics and society. She will be working with the Community of St. Egidio in Rome to focus on humanitarian corridors and refugee resettlement.

Maia Hamin

Hamin is a freshman student interested in pursuing computer science from Amherst, Massachusetts. She will go to the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute in Oslo to explore the applications of machine learning algorithms in geological and climate risk valuation.

Whitney Huang

A mechanical and aerospace engineering major, Huang wants to work in applications of computing and robotics and intelligent systems. Huang will have her internship at the BioRobotics Lab at Seoul National University. In it, they will improve a modular soft robot called SoBL.

William Hinthorn

A junior from Pembroke, Massachusetts, Hinthorn is a B.S.E. computer science major pursuing certificates in statistics and machine learning as well as East Asian studies. He will go at Momenta in Beijing to conduct research on computer vision algorithms for autonomous vehicles.

Taylor Machette

Machette is an ecology and evolutionary biology major from Stockbridge, Michigan. Reportedly pursuing a certificate in environmental studies, she will be at Aarhus University in Denmark to participate in a project on dolphin biosonar. As preparation, she will first conduct field work with bottlenose dolphins in Sarasota, Florida.

Sam Maeglin

Streicker Fellow Maeglin is a junior from Bronx, New York City. According to Princeton University, he is a politics major and will go to the Fullbright Economics Teaching Program in Ho Chi Minh City to study Vietnam's economic development.

Jona Mojados

A freshman Princeton student from Upper Chichester, Pennsylvania, Mojados will be an intern in Chiang Mai, Thailand. In there she will help enable marginalized producers to improve their livelihood through Fair Trade.

Daniel Qian

Qian is a sociology major working on certificates in environmental studies and global health and health policy. He will intern at Food Bank in Singapore to participate in scenario planning for the organization.

Alissa Serfozo

She is from Los Angeles, California who is majoring in architecture and working toward urban studies. She will go to Puhl and Dajka Architecture in Szentendre and Budapest, Hungary. In it, she will participate in projects that understand the adaptive role of contemporary architecture in traditional Hungarian aesthetics.

Tyler Simko

A politics major working toward statistics and machine learning, Simko is a junior from South Amboy, New Jersey. He will be an intern at the University of Tokyo for research on political methodology and causal inference like the statistical analyses of electoral accountability and public education.

Caleb South

A Princeton student from Orem, Utah, South is majoring in mathematics and pursuing a certificate in values and public life. He will be at the Centre d'Economie de la Sorbonne in Paris. South will be working on models of intergenerational equity in relation to climate justice.

Jenny (Qiyan) Zhao

The last Streicker Fellow for 2017 is a sophomore from Atlanta. An economics major working on applications of computing and finance, Zhao will go to Goxip in Hong Kong. It is a startup that collects celebrity and community content from social media channels and blogs.

On the other hand, University Herald reported that the Class of 2021 is now gearing up to attend the prestigious University this fall.
