Cardiff University Unveils Europe's First Cyber Security Research Center [Video]
Researchers at Cardiff University could now perform top-of-the-line studies on data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to prevent cyber-attacks. The research center is actually the first of its kind in Europe. Through it, information technologists would have a wider view of the current cyber world.
Otherwise known as the Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Analytics, the facility sits at Cardiff University's School of Computer Science and Informatics. The project was made possible through a partnership with Airbus, Wales Online reported. Indeed, tech experts are now more equipped to protect corporate IT networks, intellectual properties, privacy, and most of all - national security.
Dr. Pete Bumap, the center's Director, said in previous statements that it is important for people to improve their resilience to cyber terrorists through detecting and blocking malicious behavior before it causes its full impact. The Oxford facility does that by putting together various blueprints meant to enhance online safety. For the record, Cardiff has also been granted with nearly £2 million in external funding from UK research councils and the government. The money is for launching "major experiments" in the next three years.
For cyber security, per SC Magazine UK, Cardiff and Airbus have received more than £1 million. The agreement also states that future discoveries through the research center could be shared to Airbus. On the other hand, researchers and students at Cardiff will be given placements in the company.
For his part, Dr. Kevin Jones, the Head of Cyber Security Innovation at Airbus, earlier said that working with one of the world's leading universities is a "key approach" in the future protection of critical systems. The creation of the new research facility is an enabler for the "rapid transfer" of research into "operational activities", he added. It is also an assurance that experts have access to the latest techniques in the virtual world.
