Archie Miller has been confirmed to be the next men's basketball coach for Indiana University. The announcement was made by IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass on Saturday.

Miller, 38, will take over the role of Tom Crean, who was fires earlier this month after missing the NCAA Tournament five times in nine seasons. Chicago Sun Times reported that the new Indiana University coach will be introduced at a Monday afternoon news conference.

Glass admitted that Archie Miller has been on the short list of candidates from the start. Miller came from a basketball family and has had an impressive track record in six seasons with the Flyers.

He has helped them earn a school-record four straight NCAA Tourney bids. The team was able to win 24 games in each of those seasons and claimed the last two Atlantic 10 regular-season titles.

Miller's older brother, Sean, is a coach at Arizona. His younger brother is considered as one of the brightest young coaches in America.

He described IU as "a dream destination" for him and his family. Miller said that the university has one of the greatest basketball programs and academic institutions in the nation and that he cannot wait to start his job.

According to the NCAA, the Flyers became known for their hard-nosed defensive play under the supervision of Miller. The team has also ranked as one of the nation's best in defensive efficiency in the last three seasons.

Miller was with Dayton from 2011 to 2017. Before that, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Arizona, the Ohio State University, Arizona State University, North Carolina State University and Western Kentucky.

He has also been active with USA Basketball. With it, he helped coach the USA U19 team to the gold medal at the 2015 FIBA World Championship.

Miller played high school basketball and was coached by his father, John, at Blackhawk High School. He played as a point guard.
