Recent reports suggest that Google Pixel phones follow-up are having codenames Muskie and Walleye. But the most interesting one is the so-called Taimen (that does not belong to Pixel family) which make everyone speculates about the latest addition to Nexus family, a Nexus 6P successor.

"Taimen" is Not a Google Pixel Successor

While it is already known to many that Google Pixel phone follow-up in under development, the recently reported phone with codename "Taimen" makes everyone interested. According to BGR, the phone is not categorize under the Pixel-branded smartphone family which makes Nexus loyal fans speculate about a Nexus 6P successor.

To recall, Google has given Nexus 6, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X the codenames Shamu, Angler and Bullhead, respectively which eventually supported the speculation about the possibility of having another Nexus-branded smartphone. Meanwhile, recent report suggest that the phone could be a very large device (probably bigger than Pixel 2 XL) which perfectly describes Taimen as the largest fish in the Salmon family.  

Talking About Google Pixel Successors

While digging through more information about "Taimen", rumors about the upcoming Google Pixel successors, Pixel 2 (Walleye) and Pixel 2 XL (Muskie) specs have slowly dominating the online community. According to XDA Developers, Google is likely working on superstar phones that Samsung and Apple cannot underestimate.

Based on the previous reports, the two upcoming smartphones will right the wrong of Google Pixel Phones; thus, features like waterproofing is highly expected. Furthermore, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC is also rumored to be found under the chassis which is likely to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 modem supporting Gigabit LTE.

In addition to the purported drastic changes is the elimination of the 3.5mm headphone jack by which other manufacturers have refused to embrace. Lastly, Google is expected to produce phones that exceed the demand to avoid issues encountered with Google Pixel phones supply.

With the tough competition in the smartphone industry, Google is expected to work harder to come up with more revolutionary devices to counter Apple iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy S8. And to be able to do that, a Nexus-branded smartphone and new Pixel phones are the potential keys towards victory.
