BlackBerry Aurora Latest News & Update: Exclusive Smartphone For Indonesia Debuting, Release Date Set For March 16

By

BlackBerry is a brand that is globally distributed by TCL. But there are certain parts of the world such as Indonesia that is excluded. The reason behind this is a partnership agreement between BlackBerry and Merah Putih on September of last year. The arrangement allows BB Merah Putih to handle the local sales in the region. The first product to come out of that is the Android-powered BlackBerry Aurora.

For those up-to-date with the latest in the tech world, the BlackBerry Aurora should ring a bell. Leaked renders of the upcoming Android smartphone came out before and it all becomes official on March 9. The BlackBerry Aurora is already available in Indonesia through local retailers.

Dinomarket is one seller, offering the Android handset for Rp. IDR 3,499,000 which is roughly around $261. Pre-orders for the device kicked off as early as March 3. As a privilege, special prizes and a one-year installment payment option will be offered to the pre-ordering folks.

To justify the pricing standpoint of the BlackBerry Aurora, it would be best to check out its internal specs. Among the features of the Android-powered Aurora include a 5.5-inch 720p touchscreen, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage (expandable), a 13 MP main camera, an 8 MP front-facing shooter and backed by a 3,000 mAh battery. It will come with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, GSM Arena reported.

The BlackBerry Aurora will feature dual-SIM functionality and will be available in shades of black, silver, and gold. Overall, it looks like BB Merah Putih has come up with a sensible device and BlackBerry hopes to expand to other regions through future licensing partnerships. With the BlackBerry Aurora likely to be made available only in Indonesia, eventual BlackBerry partners could also come up with a similar and exclusive device in the future.
