Sony OLED-Display Phone could be A Limited Edition in 2018

By

Previous leaks suggest that Sony OLED display phone will be launched in 2018. However, based on the company's effort in reducing the units and focus on selected countries, could mean that the handset will be sold in a limited number.

It's been reported that Sony will focus on its hometown, Japan, instead of putting efforts in US or India. The reason is to increase its yearly growth. However, Ubergizmo reported that more mobile users favor Chinese smartphones like Oppo and Xiaomi - these brands offer value-for-money devices that Sony just can't compete with.

It is obvious that Sony OLED display phone could cost double the price of a Xiaomi handset, thus, Sony has to 'play safe' in offering its premium flagship, in order to reach out their potential market.

Sony OLED Display Rumors

The rumors that have been viral for months suggest that the 2018 Sony smartphone, presumably the Xperia XZ successor, will use an OLED panel.

It's been reported that Apple and Samsung will also be using such panel but judging from Sony's latest unveiling, a Xperia phone successor could be the best candidate to sport such feature.

As a reminder, the current Xperia XZ Premium is a Snapdragon 835-powered handset with a 4K display. From this point, it makes more sense if Sony takes it forward by using an OLED display as part of an upgrade seen in its 2018's flagship.

The news about Sony opting for an OLED panel was originated from Japan where a media outlet reported that the company has decided to use such display as its smartphone's standout feature next year, GSM Arena has learned.

While the 2018 is still far away, there hasn't been any change in reporting Sony OLED display smartphone unlike Apple and Samsung OLED handsets - which both are highly-speculated but the rumors haven't been consistent in pointing out the timeframe.

It's not yet confirmed which manufacturer will supply the OLED panel for Sony. Regardless of the supplier, the presence of OLED technology will enhance the phone's display and obviously, it needs upgrades in the hardware department. A great battery life and faster processor are also expected in Xperia XZ 2018.
