'Overwatch' Lunar New Year Skin Update For 'Mei' Accidentally Made Her A Bit Thinner, Blizzard Says

By

One question: does a game character's waistline size really matter? Apparently, it seems to be the case for Mei, who just got a fiery, red-hot costume from the recent "Overwatch" Lunar New Year skin update; but sadly, fans are saying otherwise.

Just last Tuesday, the "Overwatch" Lunar New Year celebration kicked off with new skin updates for some of the game's most popular characters. Dubbed as "Overwatch: Year of the Rooster," the newly-added skins for the OW heroes were "great", especially the ones used for Mei, a well-loved "Overwatch" Defense Hero, according to Kotaku. However, one of these skins was heavily scrutinized due to what seems like a bug, which made her look a bit thinner than her usual bulky, yet seemingly adorable size.

Further detailed on the same publication, the reason for the fan-favorite character's skin update criticism was somehow due to "Overwatch" being an inspiration for people from all walks of life and its diversity when it comes to the game characters' features. Mei having a thinner waistline size just seems to go against the "diversity" OW has shown for its gamers.

But as posted on Blizzard Entertainment's forum site, where a General Discussion thread on this issue was started by a user who goes by the name Allie, Community Manager Lylirra shed light on the "Overwatch" Lunar New Year skin update for Mei. Lylirra said it was accidentally caused by a bug in the skin's code and that they have already fixed it.

However, another patch would have to be implemented in order to fully solve the "misunderstood" issue regarding the skin update of Mei during the game's Lunar New Year celebration. The "Overwatch" Lunar New Year celebration started last Jan. 24 and will run until Feb. 13. Watch the event trailer below to see how the "Year of the Rooster" goes.
