Project Scorpio On Xbox Leaks: Is It Worth The Buck? Yes And Here's Why

By

Specifications for Microsoft's Project Scorpio leaked on January 24 as DigitalFoundry obtained white-papers from the giant tech company. The leaks reveal details on Microsoft's major steps to address the demand of gamers for the 4K feature on their consoles. However, some fans argue that this new product would only be a waste of money.

Project Scorpio On Xbox: A Huge Waste Of Money?

Since Xbox One and Xbox One S can play the same games that the upcoming Scorpio console can, fans believe that it would be a waste of money buying the newer device that Microsoft is about to release. The only new thing that Microsoft's console brings is the 4K resolution, which most gamers want in their consoles.

Price, Features, Release Date

One of the major details from the leak is the removal of the ESRAM, which is a big problem for most Xbox developers, Kitguru reported. However, optimizing for ESRAM is still very important according to the developers since the games in Scorpio must still be playable on Microsoft's other consoles, like the Xbox One and Xbox One S.

Another important detail from the leak is how Scorpio's GPU is 4.5 times more powerful compared to Microsoft's Xbox One. The GPU could also be using AMD's Polaris for architecture since it features the delta color compression. This feature is also present in PS4 Pro's graphics chip, which also uses Polaris.

The new Scorpio was first revealed during Microsoft's E3 briefing and is expected for release Holiday 2017, Tech Radar reported. Microsoft claims that its new Scorpio would be the most powerful console ever made. According to speculations, its price would be higher than the Xbox One and Xbox One S.

Considering that VR-ready PCs costs around $800 to $900, Project Scorpio could also be somewhere in this price range. Meanwhile, the new Xbox One S is only priced at $299. With a 4K display as one of its major enhanced feature, that price could really mean buying it is a waste of money.
