The latest report said that HBO has not yet come to a decision regarding the number of episodes and the show producers are already exploring the possibility of having a spin-off.

According to BuddyTV, HBO wants to see the series continue past its expiration date. Game of Thrones, without a doubt, is still a cash cow for HBO and there is a lot of great opportunity waiting for HBO to create new stories in the same universe.

HBO are said to be keen on the spinoff story because of the great success the widely popular fantasy show has had in the past few months.

HBO is well-known in the industry for creating shows and TV series that are a step above what other rival cable networks are offering in the market. With this approach, HBO is not likely to pursue a True Detective Season 2 repeat and might start looking for alternatives.
