Apple Touch ID Technology Debuts Facial Recognition And Drops Which Old Feature In Next iPhone

By

Apple is developing advanced biometric security technologies, which will include new features and remove some obsolete ones as well. Know more about the expected Apple Touch ID technology that will come with the next iPhone release.

Apple Touch ID technology: facial recognition

The current Apple Touch ID module has been with iPhone models and iPads since the release of the iPhone 5s. According to Apple Insider, a note sent to investors last Friday said that Apple might soon be coming out with a full-face recognition feature. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple might soon be replacing the old fingerprint readers and could arrive as soon as this year. Apple is rumored to be introducing a full-screen OLED iPhone model this fall.

Kuo mentioned that Apple will turn to optical type fingerprint sensing technology capable of accepting readings through OLED panels without the need for capacitive charge components. Flexible OLED displays have less signal interference, lower pixel mass and thinner form factor compared to competing technologies, Kuo added.

As optical fingerprint sensor development is still in its infancy, however, OLED display manufacturers are under more pressure to supply custom-made designs efficient with incorporating the technology. While the hurdles to entry are high, tech giants like Apple and Samsung are among the few that have the bargaining power to implement the said designs.

Apple Touch ID technology: bezel-free display

With the removal of the headphone jack, another older feature is said to be not making a comeback in the upcoming iPhone. According to Mashable, Apple is planning to remove the handset's physical home button in favor of a thumbprint sensor embedded in the screen - the first step toward a new Apple Touch ID technology.

This is not a new rumor for Apple aficionados, as they have heard talks of the home button's removal, going for a bezel-free, edge-to-edge screen design. The newest information seems to give more insight that it reallys is happening this time. No more headphone jack and maybe goodbye to the physical home button but hello to the possible inclusion of facial recognition.

Are you excited yet?  Are you an Apple iPhone wonder? What do you think of these upcoming Apple Touch ID technology updates?
