Colleges and universities have mostly one common goal. That is to increase enrollment rate in their schools. And the University of Illinois rolls out an ambitious number. The school hopes to boost enrollment by 15 percent in the course of the next five years.

With this ambitious number in mind, a tuition freeze may ensure the growth as well. University of Illinois hopes to increase the growth of its three campuses to more than 93,600 students. That means that the university aims to add more than 12,000 students by 2021.

They are looking into increases in their undergraduate programs, graduate programs and online programs in the next few years, as reported by the Chicago Tribune. This can happen through a proposal that would guarantee state funding during the five year growth. The fund will need around $662 million.

The university is even considering extending a tuition freeze on the base tuition for in-state freshmen students for the third consecutive year, as reported by the Daily Progress. The plan is to continue promoting student affordability and access to higher education.

University of Illinois also aims to increase enrollment and attract more Illinois locals and underrepresented minorities, too.

The move would mean that the university's online program, Urbana-Champaign, will create new online master degree programs. A new medical degree is also going to be launched in the Carle Illinois College of Medicine. Five new academic programs will be added as well, such as integrated health studies, disability and human development, data science, nutrition and wellness and integrated health sciences. There are also new undergraduate programs, graduate certificate courses and more.

The University of Illinois does not only want to boost enrollment but also provide opportunities for more students to gain access to world-class higher education. The move has not been finalized as of yet. The board of trustees would still need to review and vote on the plan.
