Darker & Edgier- themed ‘Doctor Strange” Brings Marvel to Whole New Era

"Doctor Strange" Didn't just earn big in the box office, it also garnered some strong reviews. But there is one thing very noticeable about the new movie and it is one of the most talked about topics online. Marvel "Doctor Strange" movie has a darker tone.

Now the question is, will the following Marvel movies follow suit and have darker tones as well? Its darker and edgier theme made the movie successful and fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe believe that it will bring the franchise into a whole new era, Movie Plot reported.

Box Office Hit

Besides strong review from diverting from the normal feel of a Marvel movie, "Doctor Strange" also earned big bucks, both domestic and internationally. The movie made $153 after 10 days of domestic release. Overseas, the magical-superhero movie made more than $500 million worldwide, Forbes reported.

Darker Theme is What it Needs

One big factor of that success is how "Doctor Strange" stepped away from the traditional lighter and funnier tone of MCU movies. The movie delves in magic and not just the usual superpowers. Its main protagonist is also arrogant and conceited, which is not a very good role model for kids.

Darker and grittier tones are usually seen in DC movies. However, there are reports that a darker theme is what "Doctor Strange" needs and it could mean a great thing for the MCU.

Perhaps the audiences of MCU are growing up and they feel like they are watching children's movies with what the franchise has been offering so far. These audiences want to see films with a darker tone, and that's exactly what "Doctor Strange" provided.

The movie even talks about dark magic and the question of morality. There are topics in the movie where there is dilemma of doing a bad thing for the greater good.

This darker, edgier, and grittier feel of "Doctor Strange" will definitely continue with its sequel, especially with the more sinister enemies he has to face.
