X-23 Surfaces In 'Logan' Trailer; Gives Birth To New ‘Wolverine’ Franchise Without Frontrunner Jackman [VIDEO]

The movie trailer of the last of the Wolverine trilogy, "Logan," surfaced the internet showcasing a character which could potentially be X-23, Wolverine's successor.

Hugh Jackman is set to reprise his role in the box office franchise "Wolverine" for the last time with not much help from fellow mutants, other than the very old Professor X (Patrick Stewart). The trailer left breadcrumbs as to what "Logan" is all about, showing fans that the old Wolverine has lost his mutant power to heal. Moreover, it introduces a new character named Laura (Sienna Novikov).

For non-fans, Laura, a.k.a. X-23, is the female clone of Wolverine. In the movie that is set in 2024 where all the other mutants have perished or gone into hiding because of government assassinations, Laura, like Wolverine and Professor X, is among the few mutants who are left.

According to The Verge, the movie loosely follows the comic story of Old Man Logan, where Wolverine tries to live a quiet life but miserably fails. It doesn't take long before people will hire him for his skills, which forces him to run into enemies and old friends. In the trailer, it shows that Professor X introduced Laura to Wolverine, asking him to protect the little girl from the cyborg called Reavers.

Fans of the comic series can easily explain the relevance of Laura's character not only in the Wolverine series but also for the entire X-Men franchise. X-23, a savage killer like Wolverine, vowed to take the latter out blaming him for all the misery that's happened in her life. However, she ended up teaming up with Wolverine's X-Force to do violent covert operations, Gizmodo reported.

She eventually formed a bond with the mutant who also struggles with his violent nature like she does. In 2014, Logan died, and after his death, Laura took on his character, wearing his classic uniform and eventually calling herself Wolverine.

"Logan" will be out in cinemas on March 3, 2017.
