Rumors are running rampant that Samsung may skim over the flat-screen Note this year. This piece of news contradicts earlier reports that indicated the South-Korean tech firm is testing a couple of devices for the Note5's successor.

A local daily newspaper in Korea, Munwha Ilbo gives this report its stamp of approval, noting that the company is not keen on unveiling a flat screen edition of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 flagship this year, Korea Herald reported.

The Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6 and Note 4 have all seen edge versions of the basic model.

Starting with the Note 4, Samsung launched an eccentric variant dubbed the Note Edge. The curve gives the handset an appealing cosmetic appearance.

The curved screen has stirred conversations for quite some time now. As was evident from the leak that surfaced online earlier this month - an alleged teaser image from the popular smartphone maker that showed the handset sporting an Edge-style display, augmented by a Stylus Pen.

If previous reports proved to be true, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 could pack an Iris Scanner on its front-shooter. Rumors went as far as confirming that Patron, an eye-scanner module manufacturer will supply Samsung with an array of parts required for the scanner.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is slated to enter its mass production stage in July. As far as the device's release time window is concerned, Galaxy Note 7 is expected to make an appearance in August - to be precise on August 2 - at the looming Galaxy Unpacked event, MNR Daily reported.

Samsung has remained mum regarding the alleged Galaxy Unpacked event on the aforementioned date; or even the existence of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 for that matter.

What that in mind, fans are advised to take these speculations with a grain of salt.
