AMD announced the release of their latest Graphics Processing Unit, Radeon RX 480, which will help in making PCs ready for virtual reality.

AMD announced the plans for its Polaris architecture-based Radeon RX Series video cards. This new video card is compatible with Virtual Reality devices. The 4GB edition of Radeon RX480 can be purchased at a low price of $199, AMD posted on their website.

During the 2016 Computex, Senior VP and Chief Architect of Radeon Technologies Group Raja Kudori announced the release of AMD RX GPU. He added that the latest video card is intentionally made for "premium VR products", reported RoadToVR.

The Radeon RX Series is the industry's first ever 14nm FinFET process technology for silent GPUs. The Radeon series has the potential to be used widely in VR industry. At 150W, the RX 480 will become AMD's most power efficient Graphics Processing Unit.

The high price of VR parts is a hindrance to the development of virtual reality technology. AMD's RX 480 GPU is a part of their strategy to dramatically increase the speed of development in the field of virtual reality.

The Radeon RX 480 Graphics Processing Unit 4GB will be released in June 29. AMD also announced that 8GB version of Radeon RX 480 Graphics Processing Unit will be available though it is not yet priced.

By bringing the high-end Radeon RX 480 GPU down to $199, AMD is going to propel the adoption of virtual reality forward, said Oculus' VP of Product Nate Mitchell.

AMD expects the rise of affordable PCs which are VR enabled through Polaris architecture-based video cards. This graphics card is expected to be in 100 million units of desktops and notebook for the next 10 years. The Radeon RX Series is said to reduce the cost of VR-ready notebooks and desktop PC.
