Midland Names Chad Miller as New Baseball Head Coach

Chad Miller has been named the new baseball head coach at the Midland University.

President Ben Sasse said that Miller comes with a decade of experience as a collegiate head coach and exceptional reputation as a top-level talent evaluator.

"Chad has the skills and experience to take an already strong Midland Baseball program to the next level," Sasse said in a statement. "He has developed talent for baseball's highest levels and has proven himself as a winning coach."

Last season, the Warriors achieved 43 wins - the most by any team in the history of the Great Plains Athletic Conference - and an appearance in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round.

Miller joins Midland community after serving the Viterbo University. Under his leadership, the team secured its first season conference championship, first conference tournament championship and first national tournament berth in the program's history. Miller was named the 2014 Midwest Collegiate Conference Baseball Coach of the Year.

Prior to Viterbo, Miller spent five seasons as the Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. He guided the team to a No.1 ranking in national summer baseball polls, to secure the most wins in the league and the first division championship in franchise history.

Miller also had a stint as Associate Professional Baseball Scout for the Kansas City Royals. There, he was responsible for planning and executing tryout camps, administering skills testing evaluations and identifying high-level talent.

"Chad has an exceptional knack for identifying talent and building an atmosphere of excellence," said Dave Gillespie, Midland University Director of Athletics. "He is a proven leader both on and off of the field, and we're excited to see him head the Midland Baseball program."

Besides his collegiate experience, Miller is known for creating the largest instructional fall baseball league in Western Wisconsin for players in grades 1-12, youth camps and volunteer coaching for the area's youth baseball and softball players.
