Team USA has been dominating the 2016 Rio Olympics. In the basketball event last week, the American players beat the Australian Boomers and kept their title as the reigning champions. Michael Phelps and Anthony Ervin also bagged more gold medals in the swimming competition. Moreover, the women's gymnastics team, with Simone Biles, has truly shown world-class talents and skills.

Team USA has more than 500 athletes and several of them have ties to local colleges and universities. U.S. News collated a list of the National Universities that have sent the most players to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

University of Georgia sent 11 athletes to the 2016 Rio Olympics. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of more than 26,000. University of Washington also has 11 athletes in the Games.

Meanwhile, according to Princeton University's official website, two students and 11 alumni athletes are participating in this year's Olympic Games. University of Oregon has 12 athletes for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and Pennsylvania State University - University Park have 13 athletes who headed to Rio this year. Simone Biles' school, the University of California - Los Angeles, as well as the University of Southern California will be represented by 15 players each.

The University of California - Berkeley had 16 athletes who made their way to Rio. On the other hand, Stanford University has sent the most number of athletes to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The 29 players are composed of Katie Ledecky, who is deemed as "the most dominant swimmer in the pool," as well as fellow swimmers Lia Neal, Simone Manuel and Maya DiRado, among others. The university has been able to produce at least one medalist in every Olympics since 1912. The achievement is said to be "synonymous with Stanford Athletics' reputation as the nation's most successful athletics program," Bernard Muir, the school's athletic director, said.
