‘Transformers’ Bumblebee Spinoff Takes One Big Step Forward – Everything We Know; ‘Transformers 5’ To Deal With Time Travel? [VIDEO]

In 2015, it was announced that Michael Bay is planning to expand the "Transformers" movie franchise by including a spinoff focusing on one particular autobot. With universes - as in Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe - being the big trend in moviemaking these days, it's not surprising that Bay is taking the upcoming "Transformers" spinoff one step forward.

The "Transformers" spinoff, which focuses on Bumblebee, already has a script in the bag written by screenwriter Christina Hodson, Deadline reported. Hodson is also working on the reboot of "The Fugitive" and the Harley Quinn solo movie.

As she has completed the screenplay for the "Bumblebee" movie, Paramount is on the hunt for the right director to helm the film. If the movie follows its schedule, the "Bumblebee" movie should premiere in theaters in the summer of 2018.

For now, no plot details about the "Bumblebee" movie have been released.

The decision to release a "Bumblebee" movie echoes Hasbro's intention to fully expand its movie universe, which is based on the origins of its toy universe. For one, there've been rumors that Paramount is looking at combining the "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" movie franchises.

In the meantime, Bay is working on "Transformers 5," which is officially titled "Transformers: The Last Knight." Even months before it is set to come out, "Transformers 5" is already causing a huge controversy, particularly with the use of the Blenheim Palace as one of its set pieces, Collider reported. It was reported that the former home of Winston Churchill is being portrayed as a Nazi headquarters.

In "Transformers: The Last Knight," Mark Wahlberg returns as Cade Yeager. Cast members from previous films, namely Stanley Tucci, Josh Duhame, Tyrese Gibson and Mark Ruffalo, are also joining the cast.

Although Bay has been relatively quiet about what "Transformer 5" release is about, some of the new characters involved in the film are historical figures, such as Churchill and King Arthur. Perhaps, the movie will deal with time travel that goes as far back to King Arthur's period.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" will premiere in theaters on June 23, 2017.
